Coach Baum is HSC’s founder and head instructor. He directed and instructed at
countless hockey schools throughout the Midwest before founding HSC in 1988.
Looking back, after a
three year playing career at Western Michigan University, he went on to spend 35
seasons as head coach at East Kentwood High School earning one State
Championship and three Runner-Up finishes. He finished his career with 623 wins a high school
record in Michigan until this past year.
Ron holds a Masters Level certification from USA Hockey and
was on staff for 10 years working in national player development camps. He
continues to serve as a speaker in their Coaching Education Program. In 1987 he
helped coach the Gold Medal team at the U.S. Olympic Festival and assisted in
the selection of our 1988 U.S. Olympic Team. In 2000, Ron became the first
hockey coach in Michigan to be inducted into the State H.S. Coaches Hall of
Fame. In 2003 he was chosen Michigan’s High School Hockey Coach of the Year and
in 2005 was inducted into the inaugural class of the Michigan H.S. Hockey
Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In 2010 Ron was presented with a
national award from USA Hockey in Colorado Springs. This past year Ron was inducted into the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame, honored with the Warren Reynolds Lifetime Achievement Award.
Ron is currently employed at the West Michigan Aviation Academy in addition to being an adjunct
professor at Grand Valley State University. Coach Baum is the H.S. hockey steering
committee head for the State Games of Michigan and serves with the West Michigan Sports Commission.
Every summer for the past twenty-eight years, HSC has

for this great game, and have the skills to pass on to the next generation. We

Junior, and professional level.
